    Ron Berg is a well-respected and highly accomplished behavioral healthcare professional with more than 30 years employment with Prelude. Ron began his involvement as a graduate student intern which grew into a full time counselor position. Ron was named Associate Director in 1985, promoted to Vice President of Clinical Operations in 2002 and was named CEO in 2010. During his tenure with Prelude, he has led the organization in becoming one of the most comprehensive non-profit behavioral health agencies in Iowa, providing best in class service while turning no one away.

    Throughout his career with Prelude, Ron has been instrumental in developing programs to benefit those seeking help with addiction and mental health issues, including initiating Synchrony’s Employee Assistance Program. He has also lent his expertise through participation on the Empowerment Board, Decat Committee and System of Care organizations. Most recently, he served as president of the Iowa Behavioral Health Association (IBHA).

    Ron is a graduate of Iowa State University and earned his Master’s in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Iowa.

    April Knudsen joined Prelude in 2015 and brought more than thirteen years of community involvement, operational leadership, and behavioral healthcare development and oversight.     As Prelude’s Vice President, April Adams-Knudsen is responsible for the oversight and direction of our clinical departments, focusing on prevention, treatment, and operational services. April is passionate about the opportunity Prelude offers individuals and families seeking treatment and ensures that the clinical staff is prepared to meet their needs.  Working closely with all members of leadership, April ensures that best care practices are available for patients and their families.

    April received a Bachelor of Science in Biology & Health Sciences from Stephens College and earned dual Master degrees in Healthcare Administration and Public Health from Des Moines University.  Prior to joining Prelude, April served as Administrator for three local community healthcare organizations including a community mental health center in Des Moines.

    Fonda Frazier began her career at Prelude in 1984 as a counselor and was promoted to Clinical Director in 1988. With 30 years of experience working with substance abuse and mental health disorders, she is responsible for the design and implementation of all treatment services offered by Prelude. Aiming to provide the highest sophistication in treatment, Fonda is regularly revamping services to best fit the needs of the individuals seeking recovery.

    Fonda holds a Master of Counseling and Human Development from the University of Iowa, certification as an International Advanced Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (IAADC), and status as a Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (M.I.N.T). She has also achieved certification as a Multidimensional Family Therapist. As such, she works closely with youth and their families as they pursue recovery from their addiction and work toward healing the family unit.

    Fonda holds an Adjunct Faculty appointment with the University of Iowa Vocational and Rehabilitation Counseling Program. She has been teaching at the University for over 15 years to undergraduate and graduate students, including Motivational Interviewing courses for the past 9 years. She has also presented at the University of Iowa IHELP workshop, formerly known as the Annual Summer School for Helping Professionals. Fonda has been a former board member of the Rape Victims Advocacy Program in Iowa City and the Mental Health Institute Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor Training Program, Independence, Iowa. She assisted with curriculum development for the Professional Addiction Counselor Training program (P.A.C.T.) and presented workshops statewide to participants on tools and techniques in working with persons diagnosed with substance use disorders. Ms. Frazier conducts workshops statewide on Motivational Interviewing as well as, topics specific to substance use and mental health disorders. Most recently, Fonda holds an appointment on the Iowa Certification Board.

    Heather Thomas is a Licensed  Independent Social  Worker and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor who has a steadfast commitment to providing the best care for Prelude clients and their families.  Heather began her career working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and brain injuries. Her work experience also includes serving individuals with anxiety, schizophrenia, substance abuse and legal involvement through work at a community mental health center.  In her current position with Prelude, Heather manages the clinical services through policy and procedure development and supervises the Central Iowa clinical staff.

    Heather received a Bachelor of Social Work and Minor in Psychology at Mt Mercy University in Cedar Rapids and a Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin.

    Chris Russell oversees accounting, payroll, and revenue cycle operations. Her background in finance and internal auditing provides her with extensive knowledge and experience related to the financial challenges and opportunities facing the behavioral health industry.

    Chris earned her Bachelor of General Studies degree with an emphasis in Business Administration and Psychology in 1991 from the University of Iowa. She also received a Bank Operations diploma from the American Bankers Association. She began her career with Prelude in 1993 as an Accounting Technician and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2008. Chris also serves as Treasurer for the Bicyclists of Iowa City.

    Sandy Durbala joined the Prelude team in 2009 to help further philanthropic support for the benefit of our patients and their families. Managing the marketing and fundraising efforts, she is responsible for increasing awareness and advocacy while building relationships and connecting donors to the institutional needs. Previous to her tenure at Prelude, Sandy served as Associate Director of Planned Giving at a 4-year private liberal arts college and was employed in the banking industry.

    Sandy is a graduate of the American Institute of Business. She is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and served as a member and past president of the Mid-Iowa Planned Giving Council. Sandy is a member of the Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Program, Class of 2013.

    Cassie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics with a minor in Family Life/Consumer Affairs from the University of Northern Iowa. Prior to joining Prelude, Cassie held positions with MCI, McGladrey & Pullen, Toyota Financial Services and Noel-Levitz.

    As IT Director, Todd Yelland is responsible for the oversight of the technology infrastructure to ensure effective daily operations of the agency and the protection of patient confidentiality.  Todd joined Prelude in 2003 as the Network Administrator and was promoted to Information Technology Director in 2007.  Todd has earned certifications in A+, MCP, MCP+1, MCSE and ACT.  In his IT Director role, Todd provides leadership and management to a team of IT specialists and has developed a technology plan that supports Prelude’s mission and core values.
