It is important to us that you succeed throughout your personal recovery journey. We are here to provide support through alumni programming.
Alumni
You are welcome and encouraged to join Prelude’s alumni group, Alumni Partners. You will be able to stay in touch with friends that you made during your treatment, as well as make new ones.
Alumni Partners
What are the Alumni Partners?
a.lum.ni / plural noun
Latin for pupil, literally “the nurtured.”
Prelude is dedicated to the possibilities of change and is committed to enhancing quality of life through accessible behavioral health services. We are invested in your recovery and are committed to supporting an environment to nurture your success.
The Alumni Partners is a community of people made up of individuals who have participated in Prelude’s treatment programs. These individuals are committed and supportive to those in search of life after recovery.

What We Can Do Together
With the Alumni Partners outreach program, Prelude is able to offer the support, safety and inspiration you need to continue your commitment. We value your experience in your journey to recovery and recognize that when we share our stories and offer support to one another, everyone involved is stronger.
The Alumni Partners program was formed by Prelude’s very own and is led by past patients who have found life in recovery. Prelude staff is available to meet with the group to help facilitate meetings, social events and special programming. It is important to us that you succeed throughout your journey to recovery and the Alumni Partners invite all participants of Prelude’s programs to join and experience the opportunities and activities that are provided through the program.

Give Back
These are just a few of the many ways alumni can give back to help others get the treatment they need:
- Refer those seeking help to Prelude
- Make a donation to Prelude*
- Share your recovery story, email [email protected]
*Alumni and their families can lend a helping hand to someone who is currently going through treatment by making a donation to the Alumni Fund. Every dollar donated goes directly to meet the emergency needs of our patients and to support Alumni Partner activities.
Donations may be made in honor of/memory of an individual who made an impact on your recovery journey.
Events
We invite alumni to participate in events designed to support current and past patients. We’d enjoy hearing from you with ideas on other activities alumni would like to see.
Annual Bernie Lorenz Recovery Picnic
Held each September in conjunction with National Recovery Month, current residents and alumni, along with their families, are invited to gather for a picnic meal and fellowship. This annual celebration of recovery is in its 13th year.
Holiday Party at Bernie Lorenz Recovery
Holidays are a time for gathering and that’s what happens at the annual Holiday Party. Residents and staff enjoy fellowship over a meal prepared by the women currently in residence, sing holiday carols, and share stories of recovery. Santa makes an appearance at the party and brings each of the residents a special gift donated by Roxanne Conlin of Des Moines.
Art of Recovery Walk
In honor of the thousands of Iowans living in recovery, Prelude celebrates National Recovery Month (September) by hosting the Art of Recovery Walk. Participants enjoy live music, an art exhibit of works created by current and former patients, stories of recovery and a group walk. This advocacy event was initiated in 2016 and will become an annual event for Prelude. Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 24, 2017 for the Iowa City walk and follow Prelude on social media to hear when the 2017 Des Moines date has been set.
