Synchrony, a program of Prelude, provides individualized mental health and substance abuse care for individuals and families and employee assistance program (EAP) services for area businesses. Synchrony staff also work with employers, providing drug-free workplace and other employer-related training sessions.
Behavioral Health Services
Synchrony provides effective, confidential substance abuse and/or mental health services to assist individuals and families in finding life affirming solutions to substance abuse and mental health problems. Personalized treatment is offered in a safe, professional environment.

Fees for Services
Synchrony accepts insurance and self-pay. Our financial staff can assist in determining insurance coverage and coordinate payment plans for co-payments and deductibles.

EAP Employee Assistance
The Employee Assistance Program helps resolve personal problems before they negatively affect your health, relationships with others, or job performance. The service is an employee benefit for companies that have contracted with Synchrony. Synchrony counselors provide confidential, professional counseling, education and referral services to you and your family members. EAP staff can meet with you up to six times for assessment and short term counseling. Referrals can be made to community services for further assistance, if needed. Employees can call to set up an appointment or just call to talk to a counselor.
The EAP can help you with a variety of issues:
- Marital and family
- Other relationship issues
- Stress and emotional trouble related to finances
- Stress and emotional trouble related to legal issues
- Substance abuse
- Work-related concerns
When you come to Synchrony, you will meet with an experienced and specially trained counselor who will assist you in getting the help you need. If the counselor believes you need specialized or longer-term counseling, you may be referred to another qualified professional. The important thing is that you and your counselor decide on a plan that’s right for you.
2018 EAP Training Schedule
We can offer any of these trainings on-site at your place of business, as well as other requested trainings.
All classes will be held at the Synchrony Services EAP office

- Class size is limited to 12. An additional class will be scheduled if the waiting list is more than seven (7) individuals. Classes with less than three (3) participants registered within five days of the class will be canceled.
- Classes are free to full service contractors.
- A fee of $25 per participant is charged to those companies that are billed on a per case basis.
February 6: 9 am to 11 am: Managing Conflict
Conflict is a normal part of the workplace. However, if not managed and resolved in an effective, timely manner, conflict can be destructive and costly to your department and organization. This class will explore the often hidden issues behind conflict, some techniques for discovering and resolving those issues as well as conflict management skills.
March 8: 2 pm to 4 pm: Creating a Positive Workplace
Is going to work bringing you down? Could your workplace us a little extra positivity? Come to this training to freshen up on positive communication skills, ways to build respect among co-workers, and bring the fun back to going to work!
April 16: 9 am to 11 am: Motivating Your Employees
We will discuss what motivates employees, how to motivate individuals and groups, and cost-effective strategies to do so.
May 14: 9 am to 11 am: Finding Work/Life Balance
It can be easy to separate life at home from life at work, but separating the two is an important part of our productivity and personal well being. Learn how work/life balance can reduce stress, restore harmony to your day-to-day routine, and gain skills to organize the various pieces of your life.
June 7: 9 am to 11 am: Essential Skills for Supervisors
Are you a new supervisor trying to navigate all the responsibilities of your new role? This course will focus on a few of the key elements of supervision including delegation, coaching, and communication.
August 23: 2 pm to 4 pm: Performance Management and Employee Reviews
This training will take a more in-depth look at topics covered in the Essential Skills for Supervisors training. Topics will include all aspects of performance management: feedback, performance appraisals, conflict management, disciplinary action, and termination.
September 10: 9 am to 11 am: Dealing with Difficult People
This training will cover tips for dealing with difficult people including understanding difficult behaviors and how to respond to them, de-escalation strategies, and communication skills to turn conflict into cooperation.
October 16: 2 pm to 4 pm: Sexual Harassment
Come learn how you and your company can build a safe, healthy workplace environment. We will discuss how to recognize, prevent, and react to sexual harassment in the workplace.
November 6: 2 pm to 4 pm: Stress Management
Feeling frazzled with all you have to do? Stress can be wonderfully motivating at its best, and debilitating at its worst. In this training session, we will cover techniques for personal stress management, as well as ways to create a culture of self-care in the workplace.
December 6: 2 pm to 4 pm: Managing Generational Differences in the Workplace
Did you know that there are currently four generations in the workforce? This training will discuss ways to manage, motivate, and encourage cooperation between all four generations.
Over 77% of all illicit drug users are employed. Absenteeism, increased healthcare costs, and decreased productivity due to alcohol and other substance abuse can cost your company roughly $1,000 per employee per year.
We can help you create a drug-free workplace through counseling and training. If your organization is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT), we offer a complete DOT compliance program with training for your supervisors.
There are two versions of this training. The first, for new supervisors and anyone who has not taken the class before, is two hours long. The second is a refresher class for those who have already taken the first class, and it is one hour long. Both classes include dynamic activities, discussion, and videos, and the skills learned in the class are easily transferable to the workplace. In fact, these skills include consistency, documentation, and progressive discipline, which are necessary skills for supervisors regardless of whether drugs or alcohol are concerned.

Meet Our Synchrony Staff
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Manager
Madeline Arnold, Employee Assistance Program Manager, graduated from the University of Iowa with her Masters of Public Health. She is passionate about health education and giving people the tools they need to lead healthy, productive lives. As the EAP Manager, she is excited to provide these tools to companies and employees through all the services Synchrony has to offer.
Lisa Jones is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who attended a dual-degree honors program in Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Therapies at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She graduated in 2013 and relocated to Iowa in search of the perfect casserole. Lisa joined Prelude Behavioral Services in 2014 and began working in the Residential setting, facilitating psychoeducational and art therapy groups, and meeting with individual clients. Earlier this year, Lisa made the switch to Synchrony Services. Lisa currently maintains an individual client case load in addition to providing trainings and offering critical incident response and debriefings. Lisa utilizes an integrative approach to psychotherapy generating a customized method for each individual. Lisa enjoys identifying strengths in her clients and using those strengths to raise awareness and overcome barriers to success. Lisa’s clients will tell you that she’s very laid-back, accepting, non-judgmental, and frequently utilizes humor to create a more casual atmosphere.
